    If Erik were a better man, he’d let Charles go. As it is, Erik is not a better man. In fact, he thinks he is not much of a good man at all, and undeserving of the things he loves, but he’s out of bed and taking three long strides before he can stop himself, taking Charles’ wrist in his hand and then pulling him into his chest and wrapping his arms around him so he can bury his nose into Charles’ hair.

    Charles punches Erik’s chest far too gently. “I’m angry with you,” he repeats, muffled into Erik’s shoulder, but he’s melting there.

    “I know,” Erik croaks.

    or Charles visits once. And then a second time. Erik isn’t immune.
