The shift was going terribly wrong.
Any hope that you originally had for the day had died out fully after the first call. Your will to live and exist was also starting to die out. There must have been something in the air, that was the only plausible reason why everything could be going so bad- honestly, you would have blamed it on the fact that it was a full moon if not for the fact that the full moon had happened the week prior.
“Hey kiddo, don’t let this get you down- this sort of thing just happens sometimes…”
The already sour expression on your face worsened.

You never asked for too much, knowing that only those cushioned by richness could afford to be daring and competitive, you aimed to cover a spot just big enough for you in the world and nothing else. Enough money to allow yourself to stop being scared of tomorrow, enough money to occasionally allow yourself a treat, a gift, or to have a pet, but at the current state, you were far from your goal. You did what you had to do, afraid to “overstep” and draw too much attention to yourself—not because you disliked the feeling of having eyes following you around, but simply because, on your planet, catching the eye of the wrong person meant problems.
You were a coward, a rat hiding in the sewers from the grabby hands of the giants above you, scrambling to not get stepped on during your every waking moment. You lived day by day afraid of the chance you might lose everything you worked for, and being a coward allowed you to survive.

Summary
Sun and Moon have always been the type to love the world around them, the type with that overzealous zeal for life and discovery. It was the furthest thing from a far cry to assume that they would fall in love with creatures beyond the stars they can access.
When it came to Sun, his curiosity and love for the unknown was what had attracted Moon. Who wouldn’t fall in love with someone’s love for life? Moon had always admired the other for it.
The arts, science, literature, animals, both of them loved them. Sun especially loved the arts, Moon loved science. Both adored animals.
Much of their species did.
And like a majority of those who lived amongst the stars, they were especially fascinated by humans.

You never knew aliens were real. Never really thought about it. Actually, that’s very much so a lie, you just… really never thought too hard. But you’d considered it. Thought it would be real neat, maybe a little scary.
No one ever expects to find out. Especially not how you did.
Apparently, aliens like to keep humans as pets.

Summary
New town, new life, and a new (used) car! You've even already gotten a new job within the first week of your move-in! "Superstar Arcade and Playplace." Your new bosses are... a bit weird, but it's kinda cool working in an arcade and it pays fair enough.
Okay, actually they’re really weird. One of them is a high-energy neurotic neat freak, and the other naps on the break room couch for half the day and is a menace for the other half. At least it’s entertaining to watch them squabble like an old married couple. And they seem harmless…right?
