Commander Shepard was broken apart—used by everyone when it was convenient and stretched thin until there was nothing left. Even after death, there was no way for her to peacefully rest as Project Lazarus tampered with life and brought her back from the dead.
She had presumably died again due to the necessary sacrifice she had to make for everyone in the Milky Way, for her crew, for Miranda, Jack and Liara. That should've been the end of her service, the end of Commander Shepard's legacy.
..It was, and now Jane Shepard is all that is left. But Jane Shepard was worthless (and the others claim otherwise, but she knew in herself that she was right).
Jane Shepard lives.
Jane Shepard thinks she's better off dead.
For Jane Shepard took a great fall, and now nobody can put her back together again.
