He lives.
For the second time in his life now, Clive lies alive and alone in the ruins of everything he has ever known.
He is distantly aware of the beach that he was washed up upon. There is rough sand beneath him that sticks to his sweat-slick skin. The night air is cool, just shy of biting. He feels everything faintly. Every sensation is numbed and there is nowt but silence. His ears are cotton stuffed and his skin is unfeeling.
Clive swallows shakily and inhales.
He lives.
