How are you?
The ding pulled both sisters out of their stupor, lethargic from the humidity despite being in a covered area, and the several mixed drinks ordered. They both looked down at the same time to the table between them, each hoping it was for them.
They froze when they saw the name on the screen.
Emily immediately sat up and rested her sunglasses on top of her head, unconvinced that she had read it properly. She could feel Vinnie’s eyes on her, silently anticipating her next reaction. She could feel her face grow hotter, an odd cocktail of shame, embarrassing hopefulness and dread.
She sucked in a breath, fingers tingling, but not daring to reach for her phone just yet.
Before she knew it (and no less than offended by it), she was blinking back tears.

Sue motioned to the back of her dress, where she hadn’t been able to reach the top buttons.
Emily simply nodded as Sue turned around, finding her best friend’s image in the mirror in front of them. She watched as Emily delicately traced the edge of her dress with her fingers. She pretended not to notice Emily’s quick intake of breath when those fingers brushed against her skin, just as she pretended not to feel the goosebumps they left in their wake.
It wasn’t a new sensation, anyway.

Summary
She couldn't sleep. She was not going to be able to sleep after what had happened in the afternoon, after having seen her fall to the ground and break her head, after having heard her skull crack, after having her blood on her hands.
Returning to Jillian's house from the rescue, Beatrice finds herself at Ava's door, needing to see the bearer breathing in order to fall asleep.
Apparently, Ava couldn't sleep either.

And sometimes, it’s really difficult to control herself. Especially when Beatrice looks at her like that. Like Ava is a God, like she would kiss the ground on which Ava walks as well as her feet. There is so much tenderness and softness in the way that Beatrice looks at her, so much reverence that Ava feels like she may combust any time. But it is difficult to read Beatrice sometimes and Ava does falter at times thinking whether all of this is just because she is a Warrior Nun, or is there really something deeper there under the surface of their friendship.
