    Summary

“It certainly seems serious enough to him,” I observed. “He’s put it to us very plainly.”
“Oh, yes, Lestrade is in a bind with this one,” Holmes agreed forlornly. “He’s an honest fellow, and a friend of justice to the last, but he would never admit defeat so openly if he was not greatly concerned. ‘Unusual witness…’ that’s rather vague. What do you make of the word, Watson?”
“Certainly that she’s not a member of the ordinary crowd. But moreover, my dear fellow, that Lestrade is deliberately keeping you in suspense. He wants you to come see for yourself.”
“Pah!” Holmes leapt from his chair and paced the room in a flurry of indignation. “The most dreadful thing about a professional is that he is always so shamefully earnest."

Inspector Lestrade presents Holmes and Watson with a case that may forever haunt their memories.

His gauntlet comes to Dunk's face, brushes clumsily over him. "My man," he breathes, barely a whisper, and there's blood on the metal, and it smears over his lips as he weeps, "Your man."

    Summary

Waking up after the events of the trial, Ser Duncan the Tall is more confused than ever. Prince Baelor is completely uninjured and nobody seems to remember what has happened but him.

Nor does it explain the reaction upon the discovery of Dunk wounded within Ashford castle, mistaken for a mistreated servant of the household. The dragon princes of the realm do not seem to appreciate such treatment and immediately take Dunk under their wing, much to the hedge knight’s bewilderment.

    Summary

What if the book merchant was not the first disguise Holmes used to get close to Watson? What if he returned to London months earlier and found he could not stay away from him? Watson, whose face has grown sunken and weary in these three years, and Holmes who, as a result, finds himself desperately curious to understand why.

"He met my gaze for a single moment. He saw me, but he did not observe. I was merely a stranger to him. His eyes had categorized me as an insignificant fragment of the scenery around; as unimportant as the street lamps, the cobbled stone, the bustling crowd and the click-clacking sound of a hansom driving past. He paid me no mind. He diverted his gaze back to the street, but I, I could not bring myself to look anywhere besides at him."
