Summary
Spider was sent back to High Camp after almost dying in his sleep. He takes the journey alone going with the Wind Traders. Jake asked Norm to let him know when Spider arrived. The Tlalim clan made it, but Spider wasn’t with them. Jake learned their caravan had been attacked by Mangkwan raiders and one of the gondolas was shot down - the one Spider was on. There was a search, but no survivors were found. Spider was dead. The Sully children were devastated. They had lost another brother. Spider’s death also fractured and broke the family beyond repair.
Four years later: Pain was the only thing holding the Sullys together as they go on barely living. Kiri, Lo'ak, and Tuk forged their own paths. Jake and Neytiri knew better than to stop them.
Then word gets back to the family that Spider is alive! After four years of believing he was dead! Everyone is excited to welcome him back home… until they're faced with an unexpected realization, he isn’t the Spider they knew. He’s breathing Eywa’eveng’s air and has a kuru! He’s angry... and he's part of the Mangkwan clan. The Sully don’t understand what’s happened to him, because standing in the place of the person they once knew is a stranger who hates them.

Gripping his chin and keeping his face turned up to hers, Neytiri said, “Spider. You’ve lived your whole life on Eywa'eveng. The Na’vi and our way of life are all you know. Just because that demon said he sees himself in you doesn’t mean he is. You are nothing like him. You are my son; you are your father’s son. You are part of a long line of mighty Omatikaya and Metkayina warriors and Olo’eyktan. You are also part of the lineage of Toruk Makto. Quaritch can never take any of that away from you.”
The words were said with so much passion and conviction that Spider's tears stopped. He wrapped his arms around Neytiri as tightly as he could. “Thank you.”
“I speak only the truth,” she said simply wrapping her arms around him in return.
Or
Spider’s memories of Quaritch when he was held at Bridgehead have been slipping into his dreams. One night when he can’t take it anymore, he heads to the beach. Neytiri follows and she finds her son desperately in need of some soothing. She knows what will help.
