Summary
Klavier stared through the window in silence. In that silence, Simon could hear his reprisals of the past.
Unattainable approval. Standards never to be met. A throne of lies that he had been too naïve to see Kristoph’s manicured hands construct, even as his own—scarred from guitars and stained with ink—followed in their act, desperate for cheers and applause as they used the tools forged before them. And all of it, he had done with an eager, show-stopping smile.
Klavier did not smile now. He only continued to stare with a severity that hardened his eyes and cast stark shadows upon his features.
Kristoph Gavin stared back. A smile pulled at his lips. It did not fit among the gaunt features of his countenance, his eyes shadowed by hollows, his cheeks sunken into the bone beneath; but then, none of his physical appearance corresponded with his demeanor. He lifted his head, just barely, pale hair streaming down in a perfect, precise curl onto the gurney whose straps bound him. Then his voice crackled over the speakers. “My, my, what a surprise… It’s been four years too many,” he said, “Klavier.”

Summary
When Klavier spoke again, it was with a smile. “You’ll buy my albums when I’m famous, yeah? Simon?”
He looked up. He wasn’t sure why he heated up the way he did, seeing that bright-eyed smile shining his way, hearing his name fall from those lips like the chorus of a new song. He only knew that he did. “Maybe,” he said, pulling as much petulance from its syllables as he could. “As long as you’re not a one-hit wonder.”
He chuckled. “I’m going to miss you when you’re gone, you know. You’re my favorite upperclassman.”
“Well, I look forward to when we reunite at the prosecutor’s office.”
“Maybe,” he said, drawing out the word with a smirk. “As long as you haven’t worked yourself to death by then.”
In which Simon Blackquill and Klavier Gavin were acquainted at Themis Legal Academy in 2017 and reacquaint in 2027 after the arrest of a brother and a release from death row.

Summary
His eyes narrowed, stare sharper than blades. The scrutiny was almost familiar: the arms crossed over his chest, stiff within his suit, the silence that stifled the chatter of people around them until there was nothing but the seconds passing by. Yet, his judgment was different. His frigidity remained only on the surface, melted in the candlelight that danced along his skin, painted his sharp features with hues of golden warmth.
Then, finally, he spoke. “What business do you have with an ex-con, hardly disentangled from the Reaper’s clutches? Surely, there is far better society to be found in this ballroom.”
Klavier nearly smiled at the poeticism of his words. “Verzeihen Sie,” he said, “I merely took an interest in meeting my partner in turning out the lights of the law.”
Klavier Gavin meets Simon Blackquill at the Prosecutor's Office 2028 New Year's gala.

Summary
Klavier Gavin woke up for work three hours before work began, slowly easing himself out of bed so as not to disturb its other occupant and pry him from the sleep he had been so deprived of for seven long years.
Simon Blackquill was, in fact, woken up by this.

Summary
Simon kneeled down next to the couch. Then, slowly, he lifted a container of soup from the bag and dropped it down atop the unmoving heap that rested on the cushions.
Klavier woke with a start.
“I’ve returned from Whole Foods.”
The Twisted Samurai (Simon Blackquill) unsheathes his blade (reusable shopping bag) and bravely ventures to the battlefield (Whole Foods), not to bring honor upon his name (self-interest), but at the wishes of his ailing master (Klavier Gavin with a headache) to retrieve the fabled yet potent elixir of healing (Nana's Chicken Noodle Soup).

Summary
Apollo Justice had been sitting at his desk; that was how it always happened.
Then, like the devil ascending upon him—with her red hair, and malice crinkling her eyes, broadening her grin—her palms smacked the desk. “Five days until Christmas, Apollo!” she announced as if he hadn’t been dreading it with each passing minute. “Didja get your shopping done?”
“Good morning to you too, Athena.”
He hadn't wanted to go Christmas shopping, or even acknowledge December's existence after last year. But, of course, Athena had to ask, and, of course, he had to dig himself a grave, just as they'd done for Clay last December.

Summary
“Athena, I’m fi—”
“No, you’re not!” she snapped, her shout punctuated by hand smacking countertop. “Your best friend died two weeks ago and you happen to knock yourself out cold, alone on a weekend? Apollo—”
“It hasn’t been two weeks!” he shouted.
She flinched.
“It’s been twelve days!” He inhaled slowly, gaze fixed on the eggs. “Twelve days,” he repeated. His voice was flat; a lifeless monotone concealing the battlefield of writhing emotions beneath. Anger grappled with overwhelming despair. Both endeavored only to defeat the other and claim their victory, the grand prize.
Both lost.
The truths behind the murder of Clay Terran and the UR-1 Incident were revealed on December 20th. One week later, on December 27th, 2027, it became apparent that the aftermath of the cases was unresolved, that death had taken more than a fledgling astronaut.
Athena Cykes was determined to resolve the aftermath, no matter how tumultuous the road to resolution; whether Apollo Justice was willing to accept it or not.

Summary
They stared at each other; the Batman’s black cowl obscuring the sweat that dripped from his forehead, drenching him in a silent cold dread, and the man with his awkward gait stepping to the side, nearer and closer, his hands fumbling over the rifle in realization of his clear advantage. He reloaded his weapon in a series of clumsy clicks, his eyes darting from the metal in his hands to the man who clung to the metal below him, dangling above the impending watery wreckage of Gotham.
Even with his glasses, he could not see beyond the suit of Batman.
He needed the mask: the freedom from the chains and expectations of the manor, the vengeance it allowed in the twilight, the wall it erected between the mask and Selina Kyle, preventing her from drawing too near.
Laying on the catwalk, the mask suffocated him. He needed to breathe.
