“I’m—uh,” Guest starts, and he stutters something out in the space between dawn and midnight. His voice squeaks without sleep, but something just as sweet. “Well—you know.”
“Just say he fucking stinks.”
“It’s not just that,” Guest says, but unlike Expendable, he is telling with his tone. It is just that, John thinks. “I suppose ‘m also worried about him.”
“He’s not the green witch,” Expendable responds. His tone ends high, like there is a joke there that makes sense. Guest laughs like it does make sense, and John squeezes his eyes tighter together and pretends like he never woke for their conversation to begin with. “He won’t die if we—like. Throw him in a bath.”
“You don’t actually know that—”
