“It’s an invitation to go to a university and talk to some bots, what’s to make of it?” I said. Then the obvious reason behind Bharadwaj asking occurred to me. Oh, great. “Don’t tell me you’re actually thinking about going?”
“I’m considering it,” Bharadwaj said. “I set my own schedule these days, and I would very much like to speak with the bots they’ve been working with, if nothing else.”
I sighed. I like sighing at appropriate moments, and I think I’m pretty good at it at this point. “There are bots on Preservation.”
“True, but the Pansystem University of Mihira and New Tideland has one of the most advanced programs in this section of the galaxy for the construction and study of higher-level bots!” Bharadwaj said, making one of those hand gestures she liked for emphasis.

AU after Fugitive Telemetry. Bharadwaj, Mensah, and Gurathin take a trip to do some research and rapidly uncover more than they'd bargained for. Why did Murderbot tag along on this low-risk research trip? Listen, don't worry about it.

Airplane is pretty sure he had reasons why cultivators weren't just flying everywhere on their swords all the time. Like, why didn't the eagles just fly the hobbits to Mordor? Cause flying is hard, asshole!
...He's pretty good at it, though.

Summary
“...forgive us for the presumption,” Edrehasivar said, tone slightly strangled in the way it always is when he doesn’t like what is coming out of his mouth. “But we thought, if we... that is, if we, er… attended... then you would not have to… no one would have to…" He sagged under our stares. “...stay behind,” he finished feebly.
We were at that moment visited by a terrible, inevitable vision of the Ethuverazhid Zhas cornered by our mother, and we confess we had to lean on the wall in a brief violation of Alchenar IX.I.VI. Even the edocharei seemed taken aback; even Cala. Edrehasivar looked horribly dismayed at this non-reaction, and immediately started to backtrack.
"We do not wish to inflict ourself," he said wretchedly. "It was only a— a thought…" He trailed off, but the pause persisted. In it, we reflected to ourself that while we had taken knives for this boy, and would willingly take plenty more, he had — indeed, has — a talent for making us want to scream in dismay.
