Tangent isn’t a child, clutching at Occam’s Razor in the hopes of cutting her way to the most obvious, infantile conclusion. He’s brought her a sample of a—a new edible root, or a fungus or something. Another instance of appalling biomimicry from the lawless flux of the Vertumnan wild.
“What is it?” she asks warily.
The alien smiles wide. “It’s my finger!”
