    “Do you truly think that anyone will wonder where you have gone?” Hannibal asked in a soft, almost sweet voice. “That isolated man who loathes social interaction, living alone in the woods. I imagine it’s terribly easy for one’s mental health to dwindle in such a state. How many men like you do you think go missing and never turn up, Will? Having hurled themselves off of a bridge somewhere when the loneliness became too much."

    In an Alternative Universe, Will is not called upon by Jack to help the FBI, but he still teaches. When Alana somehow manages to convince him to join her for after-work drinks, she introduces him to her elusive old mentor, Dr Hannibal Lecter, who decides that he must have Will by any means necessary, which is exactly how Will finds himself waking up in a concrete cellar.

    "Hi, solnyshko.”
    The Russian pet name set a firework off inside Shane's mind as he heard it cooed from behind him. The intonation was just as he remembered, but the voice was much deeper.

    He turned and felt himself short circuit. It took every ounce of willpower to not let his jaw drop cartoonishly to the floor. Shane would recognize his individual features anywhere, even after 5 years. But it was as if someone had snapped their fingers and the smug, silly Russian boy who had been attached to Shane's hip for 3 summers was transformed into some sort of fucking Adonis right before his eyes.

    “Ilya-” was all Shane managed before strong arms were wrapped around his waist and lifting him off the ground in a greeting all too familiar from years ago.

    When Shane Hollander & Ilya Rozanov spent their summers as teens in an elite hockey camp, they quickly became inseparable friends. But they lose touch when Shane moves on as a prospect for the NHL and Ilya for the KHL.

    Years later, Montreal makes a bold move to take the hottest player in the KHL. After hearing of the Russian's reputation, the Montreal Captain is tasked with keeping his old best friend and new teammate out of trouble.

    Lily: he maybe thinks it is possible, but i did not tell
    Jane: I don’t think he has any idea

    Jane: Just a hunch

     
    Or: Troy asks for Shane’s number, and Ilya gives it to him. What could go wrong? Or maybe more importantly, what could go right?

    Somehow, inexplicably, he winds up on the Savannah Bananas, an exhibition baseball team.
    He coaches skating for kids in the off season.
    For the first time in years, Shane has fun again.
    (He doesn't think about Ilya Rozanov or those two nights they shared together)
    (He doesn't give Rozanov his number when, years later, they reunite)
    (Except actually he does)
    (It's the best thing he's ever done)

    No serious hockey fan or sports commentator worth their salt would have considered record-breaking Boston superstar Ilya Rozanov to be Shane Hollander’s rival exactly, but sleeping with a man who had a specific offense-related vendetta against him and a wrist shot like a jet engine to back it up was probably ill-advised just the same.

    Or, Shane is a goalie. Ilya can’t score.
