“Cas, I-” as soon as Dean began talking, he was caught completely off-guard by the look in Cas’ eyes. The hurt in his eyes. But there was something else too, something that Dean couldn't quite name.
“No… don't.” Cas said in a defeated, and deeply hurt voice. “Just… Please, forget what I said. Even though I needed to say those words out loud, I was foolish to expect you to say it back. To say anything.”
Dean looked at Cas, disbelief clearly on his face. How could Cas even think that he wouldn't say it back?
“Cas, please just stop talking,” Dean said.
