    Summary

Grian sat back down, and frowned at the familiar new face.

The meeting took far too long and breezed by simultaneously, and Grian didn’t really pay attention to the familiar routine apart from when the new staff members were introduced, including a certain “Scar Goodtimes, he’ll be with the architecture department.”

Grian’s eyes widened even further at that. He was an architecture professor, too? …He told me he was a lawyer.

    Summary

Grian couldn’t help but treat the offer with suspicion. He wasn’t sure if the other was outright lying, but there was just something so… off, about the man, from his overeager personality to the gold rings in his slightly pointed ears, and he made sure to remain cautious about it all.

“A lawyer, huh? What do you charge?” he asked, one hand clutching his glass perhaps a little tighter than necessary.

The smile on the other’s pretty scarred face sharpened just a little. “Oh, nothing much… Just your first born child,” the stranger said with a wave of his hand, emerald green eyes sharp.

Scar would go out of his way, even as the Empire's Ordinal, just to get his hands on a beloved pet.

And maybe meet a certain someone too.

    Summary

A shadow passes over Scar and on reflex he gives a loud, swooping whistle. He’s not pulled that one out in a while, but instinct practically drags it out of him before he thinks about it this time. With himself high up on a wall under the warming sun, and Grian circling overhead, giving their old signal that it’s safe to come in for a landing feels natural.

Grian lands nearby with a familiar hop-skip and flare of air-catching wings. Vulnerable motions, if there are dangers nearby, a huge target. But any other options would involve Grian taking damage in his landing, coming in too fast, or at a bad angle. Things they don’t think about here on Hermitcraft.

When Scar whistles the second time, it’s pure simmering appreciation for the way Grian moves.

    Summary

Their tiny mech was the smallest in the fleet, that operated out of the titanic sized hanger bay. A hundred and forty feet tall, it hung from huge cabled support beams, with dozens of refueling and diagnostic cables bristling from it. Like a puppet waiting for the curtain, just so the mage-techs and redstone mechanics could reach it. All the other mechs stood on the floor of the hangar—

But the Secret Keeper needed to drop from it's traces, where other jaegers needed to step. Hanging behind and below the Secret Keeper, were wings.

Large and sleek, made of iridescent crystal paneling that cost more per square foot than than a year of taxes for some small countries, those wings made the Secret Keeper the only jaeger capable of long distance flight. The only other one they had was a sleek modern Generation 5, that had yet to find a second pilot. Blaze Born. The Secret Keeper was critical. Stealth shielding, optical panels, Invisibility Enchantments. It kept them informed of Kaiju movements, where technology and magic all failed.

    But now, it was broken.

Tango watched as the pit crew helped Scar and Grian out of the rig, a pit in his stomach.
