    Summary

The first thing Simon is aware of upon waking is a voice.

Simon tries to focus on what its saying, eyes drifting to find its source, when he sees the outline of a person enter his vision. Its clear that this person is the one speaking to him, the words muffled and strange. Simon feels a hand brush his cheek, fingertips ghosting over his cheekbones before settling to fully hold the side of his face. Simon suddenly remembers his youth; of how the teachers on Eden spoke of angels, divine messengers and warriors that helped souls pass on into the next world.

"-gonna be okay, yeah? Just hold on." The words the angel is speaking suddenly make sense, and Simon feels himself relax. "Don't worry, I got you. I'm here."

    Summary

Rocky and Grace are back aboard the Hail Mary for the first-ever mission in the Star Angel Program launched by the Eridians to help save nearby star systems that are likley to support other intelligent life.

All is going well until their new-and-improved astral sensing technology picks up a strange radio signal from a nearby moon.

    OR

The moon itself was fairly large, clearly the largest in Epsilon Eridani b’s orbit, and the magnetosphere of the gas giant could potentially stabilize a body of water like that to some extent, but there would have to be an immense atmospheric pressure on the moon for an ocean, because that’s what it was, to exist.

Once in stable orbit, Grace was able to see the ocean itself through the hull cameras of the Hail Mary.

    “That’s very strange," He remarked.

“Not very. Look at mountain ridges. Moon mountains release gas. Enough atmospheric pressure for ocean,” countered Rocky.

“It’s not that,” began Grace, “It’s red.”

    Summary

Grace’s “Spring Break” from teaching the Eridians is cut short when the Eridian scientists dump a feral new human on the beach of his habitat.

Simon and Grace need to contend with their similar traumas, the implications of the Quiet Rapture and humanity’s disappearance, the knowledge that it’s been over 300 years since Grace left earth, and the growing tension between them.

Turns out when you are stuck in an alien bubble with the only other human left that you know of and you start to catch feelings.. things can get a little explosive.

Bonus: Simon teaches the Eridians a whole load of new human expletives.

    Summary

“Simon?” Grace tries out the name, the syllables rolling of his tongue. To his surprise, Simon looks up. He looks scared and confused, regardless of how harsh his bark may come off or unnatural his eyes are. Grace longs to help him.

“Can you c’mere, please? So I can show you proof I’m not lying to you?” Grace asks with a new wave of patience. Simon looks away and doesn’t move, choosing to glare at the wall.

    “I don’t bite,” Grace reassures.

“What if I do?” Simon warns, tone too soft to be threatening.

Grace sits down with a grunt, crisscrossed on the floor from where he stood with the laptop settled on his lap.

“Then that’s a risk I’ll just have to take.”

    -Dialogue from Chapter 4

    OR -

Ryland Grace has been living happily on Erid the past year, or so he believes. He loves his comforts and small wins of his everyday, but when he’s alone it feels as though something’s missing.

Maybe this hard around the edges and mysterious stranger, the only human he’s made contact with in years, will become a friend.

Maybe something more, as his foolish soft heart always holds onto hope.
