For the last few months, Eddie would come into their bedroom and see Buck, tucked in with his bedside lamp on, waiting for him.
The bed is colder now, stripped of Buck’s things, stripped of Buck himself.
No faint indentation in the mattress, already warmed by Buck’s weight, by the time Eddie finally climbs in.
No brush of arms and legs as Eddie snuggles under the covers and Buck scoots over to make room.Now it’s just Eddie’s bed again. Vacant. Barren.

Summary
It was once impossible for Eddie to swing so close to the sun. Now, suddenly, he finds himself craving the warmth. He wants to dig deep, commit to these thoughts and their natural conclusion beyond the single apple bite. It’s a softer reality now — not cruel, not scary, easier to swallow — and it’s happened almost overnight. When exactly did Eddie become capable of such a thing? He can’t be sure. Maybe it was just that he was getting older. Maybe he was becoming more comfortable living the life he had built for himself with love and care and people who dispensed those feelings back to him, people who never judged him too harshly. Maybe it was merely a case of checks and balances; the freedom of knowing that once everything is gone there will be nothing much left to lose.
Whatever the reason for this revelation, it hardly matters. The wingspan of Eddie’s longing broadens with his search. And before Icarus ever fell, at least he flew.
Salvation comes for Eddie in the form of a misplaced camisole, a forgotten tube of lip gloss and a gay cowboy bar called Butch & Sundance. The rest is fundamental.

Summary
Chim yells for them to pry the rest of the door open for Hen to slip through, and Buck feels like his muscles are ripping with the amount of force he's using to pull on the steel.
The door swings open and silence fills the room for two seconds at the full sight of the elevator floor, Eddie’s voice fading out, “ –don’t want to die without saying it.”
Buck falls to his knees, his turnouts soaking in Eddie’s blood as he hits the floor. This is the worst day of his life.
or;
Buck punches a nurse, (almost) breaks an elevator door, swears he's gonna level Ravi to the ground. All so he could get to Eddie. They are also idiots in love.

Summary
Buck gets taken by one of the Diaz family rivals, and Eddie finds him by accident when taking down said rival and saves Buck, taking him home to help him heal.
With how horribly Buck was treated, he doesn't talk anymore, and he gets jumpy with physical touch—at least at first.
Eddie will do whatever it takes to help his mate heal.
Chris falls in love with Buck pretty quickly, and Buck falls in love with Chris on the spot.
They quickly become a family, and eventually Buck and Eddie become official mates and expand their family.

Summary
After a heated argument on a call about an injury Buck sustained, the 118 firehouse sides with Eddie, leaving Buck feeling isolated and ignored. Hurt and frustrated, Buck quietly leaves to join the 132 firehouse in LA, telling only Christopher.
Four months later, when Buck casually mentions he has a new partner, Christopher fears someone else will take Buck away from him and Eddie. Determined to protect his family, Christopher travels to the new firehouse to remind everyone that Buck belongs with him and Eddie.
