Summary
The Davy Jones origin story taken out of my longer fic for those who would like to read it in isolation! Prepared here for a gift exchange.
This short story delves into how Jones and Maccus might have met and how their lives led to their taking of a Dutch galleon, which would later become the Flying Dutchman. It details Jones' descent into Calypso's thrall and Maccus's conflicted feelings on the matter. Please note that there is heavy contemporary historical material addressed here in the form of early war era violence and slavery.
My placing of Jones' origin is pre-James VI & I with trauma resulting from the Anglo-Scottish conflict & an arrival in Amsterdam at the height of its economic power. Estimating his age at around 140 years by the time the events of the Pirates trilogy takes place.

Summary
When faced with a great struggle, nature adapts. When a great change happens in ones life, one must chose to either change or stay the same and decay. Azog really wishes he could chose the latter because being the soul-bound protector to a hobbit has to be worst thing to ever happen to him, arm being cut off included.
