Glenn blinks. He looks down, and his feet have found solid ground. “This isn’t hell," he manages.

Summary
Glenn’s in the middle of a grocery run–in the dairy section, no less–when he hears it.
Bells.
Familiar bells to a familiar tune; the sound is soft and high and distinctly joyful. Bells turn to a hum which turns into actual drawn-out words: “I don’t want a lot for Christmas.” He’d know this song anywhere. Hell, he could probably sing it in his goddamn sleep. Concerts, parties, vocal auditions–if there’s one thing he can count on, it’s some good ol’ Mariah Carey.
And so of course, you know something is really, truly wrong when he doesn’t immediately sing along.

Or: Nick wants to spend Christmas together. This causes some problems.

Summary
The mascot costume is ridiculous–the head too big for the body, the hands flopping oddly at the wrist. The person within jumps up and down, cheering nonsensical, simplistic phrases. When they see the opposing team score a goal, they yell, “It’s ok, teens! Next time it’ll be, uh–seen! Woo!”
Hermie is entranced.
“My God…” he whispers. “It’s perfect.”

Or: Hermie’s not here to make friends. He goes to a soccer game to better understand his character—nothing more, nothing less. It’s too bad Normal doesn’t get the memo.

“Are you open?” The thing with golden eyes and a yellow sweater and a face a bit too human asks. Tommy’s hands curl into fists. “Sorry, mate,” he mutters tiredly, tearing his gaze away. A headache flares between his eyes, and his words sound nearly inaudible compared to the song of open, open, open the door- “Spots already taken.”
It blinks, and the music screeches. “I- what?”
“The spot of monster bitch that’s going to kill me, torture me, whatever. It’s been taken, and I have a store to close.”…
Or: Tommy is just trying to hunt monsters, get revenge, and then finally die in peace. That all would be a lot easier, of course, if said monsters would stop being so fucking nice.

They buy the 200 fucking pound fountain. It is infuriatingly cheap, and unspeakably difficult to maneuver into any space without removing paint from said space. Rex has to come out and help them hoist it into the garage and several hours pass around the kitchen table, drinking scalding hot mint tea and plotting. Plotting. Plotting.
They’re going to have to bolt the thing down somehow or else people are going to just steal it right from the center of the roundabout. Cody has about twenty bags of unused cement in his garage and some bolts big enough to get through it if need be.
He looks at Wolffe. Wolffe looks at Rex.
(Retired Commander Cody moves into a new neighborhood and becomes furious at the way a nearby roundabout is treated as a dumpsite. He installs a giant Jedi Crest fountain dead in the center of it and accidentally creates a safe place for the diasporic Jedi community to worship.)

The avian gives a light laugh, like Wilbur’s told him a joke. “No?” He tilts his head, the feathers on his face shifting with the curve of his growing grin. Wil can see a sharp tooth poking out past his lips. “Then why is there one standing right before me?”
Wilbur freezes. He looks up.
The king is looking right at him. He’s talking about him.
Oh, no.
