"My bandaged palms scraped furiously against the stone and ice around me, chest heaving as I attempted to rise. I did not understand where I laid. Was this how Icefyre felt, trapped helplessly within ice and rock? I could only hope my body would give out to my misery within a few minutes without air and space, rather than his centuries of anguish. Without even meaning to, I cried out wordlessly. My voice filled the nonexistent space with a terrified wail at my confinement, locked between the horrid, skill-dripping stone and the icy floor. I thrashed, not understanding where I lay trapped and reopening every agony previously etched into my body. My back protested furiously, and I wondered if the warmth pooling beneath me was simply the heat of our furs and bodies, or if it was my own blood."
