    Summary

Shane needs to impress Ilya, to show him what a good Omega he can be. He’s painfully aware of his differences to all the other Omegas he’s seen hanging off Ilya’s arm as well as the fact that he’s always been considered an anomaly as an Omega in a sport dominated by Alphas. Ilya has never treated him as anything less than because of that, but Shane still feels the need to prove himself.

So that maybe the Alpha would want to come help with his heats in the future, too. So that maybe, just maybe, he would want to keep Shane.

It definitely wouldn’t happen if he couldn’t get something as simple as a fucking nest right.

Shane breaks down under self-inflicted pressure. Ilya is there to pick up the pieces (and to tell him he was perfect to begin with).

    Summary

“You are worrying too much,” Ilya said.

“Easy for you to say,” Shane muttered, unable to hold it back. “Your mom hasn’t been texting all week with stressful details about this damn camp.”

“No,” Ilya said. “She has not.”

Another vibration from his phone, 'Mom' appearing on the screen, and then—Your mom hasn’t been texting all week.

“Ilya,” Shane breathed. He pushed his laptop away and stood from the chair, approaching Ilya cautiously. “Ilya, I shouldn’t have said that.”

    Or,

A reparative rewrite of the canon scene in The Long Game, in which Ilya and Shane navigate a hard conversation because grief sometimes feels like a trap door they can’t help but fall into. They lean on each other to get through. Title borrowed from Bronwen Wallace’s beautiful and devastating poem, "What It Comes to Mean”

    Summary

“You treat me like I’m made of glass, Shane. You act like I'm about to break, like I'm this close to ruining everything.” Ilya’s voice drops to a whisper. “It makes me feel like loving me is work.”

Shane’s composure fractures. “Because I’m scared!" He drags a hand through his hair, breathing harder now. "And—and so are you! You don’t have to pretend you’re not, it’s fine to say it. I’m fucking scared, okay?”

There it is. The soft underbelly. And Ilya sees it—the exposed place, the honesty, the fear—and instead of softening, something in him hardens. “Scared of me,” he says, already deciding that's what he heard.

“No,” Shane says, immediately. “No, not of you. Just scared. Of this whole situation. Of not knowing what to do, or what to say. Of messing up." A beat. "Scared of losing you.”

And it should be sweet, should land as devotion, but it just makes Ilya’s chest ache. His smile twists, bittersweet. “But maybe you’re already losing me. Have you thought of that?”

Every day, there's less of me left, he wants to say.

Loving Shane Hollander changes Ilya Rozanov's life, but it doesn't save it.

    It doesn’t have to.

    Summary

It started as a simple conversation a little while after their wedding. It was only because things were going so well for the two of them- because Ilya had finally found a medication that worked for him and a therapy treatment plan that was effective - that he even thought to broach the topic of perhaps, maybe, if he wanted, Shane giving therapy a go himself.

It was going well at first. Shane seemed more introspective, more thoughtful about himself, more communicative with Ilya.

But within the last few weeks, there had been a shift.

Something was wrong with Shane, and Ilya had no idea what to do.

(Takes place after the events of 'The Long Game')

Ilya convinces Shane to try therapy, but it ends up bringing things to the surface Shane has spent a lifetime keeping buried. Ilya helps him through it.

The true power of the Hollander family wasn’t actually what the public saw. It was what they were capable of behind the camera, in the quiet details, and the less lit corners. Their legacy of influence preceded them. Just not in the way most people assumed.

Or - The five times Yuna and David were ride or die for their neurodivergent son + the one time Ilya told them to stop.
