Summary
Kaveh stumbled home one night, bloodied and injured from a run-in with mercenaries hired by Sachin's son, who was desperate to recoup any amount of money from his father's now-inherited estate.
Nobody liked that. Alhaitham least of all.

Summary
Kaveh paced. “Okay. Fine. Let’s play your game.”
“It’s your game.”
“Shut up. Assume mutual desire. Assume emotional repression. Assume shared domestic space.”
“Assumed.”
“Now: Is it ethical to pursue a romantic relationship if doing so risks destabilizing the existing cohabitative equilibrium?”
Alhaitham blinked. “You’re asking if kissing me would ruin the kitchen schedule.”
“I’m asking if kissing you would ethically constitute sabotage.”
There was silence.
Or, the ethics of love were complicated, but the ethics of not kissing each other were worse.

Summary
People keep coming up to Kaveh to congratulate him. Kaveh doesn’t really know why, and he’s a little too scared to ask at this point, so he heads back home, content if not a little bemused.
He is, unfortunately, reminded of it the very next day, when the door slams open and Al-Haitham stalks in. “Mind telling me why everyone was congratulating me today?” he demands. “About your pregnancy?"
Or: Al-Haitham is, without a doubt, the most annoying person Kaveh knows. Maybe the world’s second-most annoying person can help Kaveh figure him out.

Summary
Like Haitham would even care, Kaveh almost says, before remembering that the whole point is making everyone think Al-Haitham would, in fact, care.
“Oh, he’ll show up, all right,” he says instead. “He’s going to show up so hard, you don’t even know. Because he cares. So much. About me.”
His abductors trade looks with each other.
“Why do you think he’s into him?” the first man whispers, perfectly audible.
The other shrugs. “Maybe the ex-Acting Grand Sage likes blondes?”
Or: After the truth of his living situation finally gets out to the rest of Sumeru, Kaveh knows he has only one way to protect his reputation: convince everyone that he and Al-Haitham are married.
Too bad he never realized the risk of being the former Acting Grand Sage’s wife.

Summary
Kaveh never planned to still be here, in Alhaitham's house ... or to want more than he's allowed. But when a client's offhand command and a too-generous Akademiya program crack open the door to what might be a different future, Kaveh finds himself dreaming of things he's never had: family, stability, maybe even peace.
(Or: When Kaveh considers becoming a single parent, Alhaitham enters crisis mode for the first time in his adult life, scrambling to be chosen as the father of Kaveh's child.)
