Summary
Suddenly, despite having been itching for this for two weeks, standing outside of Zuko’s door got Sokka’s heart pounding anxiously against his chest.
Fire Nation tradition denotes that, once betrothed, the Alpha doesn’t see the Omega until their next heat starts. Since most matings were usually arranged by the couple’s parents in order to attempt to climb the steep socio-economic ladder of the Fire Nation, the tradition was set to ensure that no one got cold feet. Or at least that’s how it was explained to Sokka, though he really couldn’t see the sense in it at all.
Honestly, Sokka thought it was absolutely ridiculous - both the tradition and just arranged matings in general.
Then again, technically their mating had been arranged with the intention to send a political message to the rest of the world.
A message of progress and unity.
No one had to know that Sokka and Zuko had been together since the war ended and that the political advantages were just a convenient cover up so they could truly be together and no longer have to hide their relationship. So they could finally mate.
So they could start a family.

And besides, there was such a soft, gentle omega hidden deep down inside Zuko. Maybe if he stayed around a while, Sokka could draw that side out of him a little more often.

Summary
When they both take a moment to catch their breath, and Zuko pets through Sokka’s hair after he sprawls on his chest, before snapping his eyes open and staring at the top of the igloo. “Uh…”
Sokka mumbles something like a question into his skin in response.
But Zuko is still staring, unblinking, whirling back the previous week in quick flashes and noting something that had not made it into their packs before they had hopped on Druk. Something that is definitely still sitting in a jar at his small bedroom tea station in the palace.
Or: Zuko forgets his birth control, which is a problem, and then is very much NOT a problem.

Summary
After feeling an inexplicable and overwhelming heat since the arrival of Tagah (a thawed airbender), Fire Lord Zuko discovers that he is responding to an ancestral call — a rare bond between soulmates, something that hasn't occurred in nearly a century. Initially confused, he believes the call might be directed at Tagah, but soon realizes, while interacting with Sokka, that the target is actually the Southern Water Tribe warrior.
Sokka, for his part, hides that he is an omega, controlling his heat with medicinal herbs and passing perfectly as a beta. However, Zuko's proximity — and the alpha's apparent attraction to Tagah — awakens in him a burning jealousy that accelerates his pre-heat.
