    Summary

A woman appears before him atop a pale mare. She’s not wearing her usual armor and the gentle light bathing her skin makes her look different than what he remembered her as, when he bothered to do so. She looks younger, too, with her hair down and dressed in ivory white. But there’s a way about her, a certain countenance that makes her unmistakable.

“Wife,” he greets her, but the word tastes like ashes in his mouth and the stone in his hand pulsates like a beating heart, “what brings you to my dreams?”

(The ghosts of those he has wronged visit Daemon Targaryen's dreams at night, and one of those is the first wife he killed.)

    Summary

Had it been any other day, Catelyn would have left as fast as her feet could carry her. She hardly ever came to this place, if she could help it. But tomorrow she was sending half her family away, and the dead direwolf was still howling in her mind, and she had felt something coming ever since receiving the news of Jon Arryn’s death.

She knelt beneath the weirwood as she usually did beneath the seven faces of god, and she prayed. A sept smelled of incense, but this was an ancient, primal place, and it smelled of moist earth and decay. It clung to her throat like a spoonful of spoilt honey. She knew no hymns, no songs for the nameless, faceless gods of the greenwood. But the blood of the First Men still flowed in the veins of the Starks, and it was for them she was asking.

“Let them all be safe,” her throat rasped as a light breeze danced through the rustling leaves, “and I’ll give you anything you ask of me.”

Anything? The wind seemed to whisper.

    Summary

"Something funny that I've found / Is just how quickly worlds burn down / Make one wrong turn, and you can't turn around" — Alec Benjamin, 'One Wrong Turn'

"Viserys, sit down." Still, the Old King commanded a certain kind of respect.

My father is not dead yet. He wants to scream. He is your son and a Prince of the Seven Kingdoms, not a corpse. You offered him the crown and he declined you. And still you made him your heir and the Prince of Dragonstone and Hand of the King and the stress of it is what is killing him. He wanted none of it. It's your fault, you killed him, and you can't wait for a septon to bless his soul to replace him.

But he bites his tongue, because he saw it coming anyways. And it is not becoming of a Prince of the Realm to scream at your King. And especially not when he can feel a knot in his throat, and is not quite sure that he would speak actual words instead of just wailing in agony.

(Aemon Targaryen left a son and a daughter before dying in Tarth. In Harrenhal, 101 AC, another claimant is chosen by the lords of Westeros. Prince Viserys Targaryen never became King, and Lady Rhea Royce marries a different brother.)
