In reality, she and her friends prepare for a private war; a war waged against neither kings nor nations, but rather the shadowy organization that tugs on the strings behind them.
The remnants of Agartha owe her a debt of blood, and the Flame Emperor intends to collect.

Not the way it had when Hikari had first transferred to Seisho academy, and Mahiru had desperately fought to keep herself within Karen’s orbit as the other girl first shimmered, then exploded into newfound and revitalized brilliance. It still shamed her a little, how she’d accused Hikari of trying to steal Karen away from her, as if the relationship between Karen and Hikari was nothing but the product of Hikari’s malicious intent towards her. She’d been so grossly self-centered back then; it was nothing less than a miracle that her friendship with Karen survived, and an even greater blessing that Hikari had somehow come to like her too.
Well, she thought Hikari liked her. Hikari was hard to read even on good days.

A fic this long should not have pacing this excellent, and yet it does. By far the best-executed time travel fanfic I've ever read. There is no free trip back in time to fix things, and everything is so different that the 'traditional' preternatural foresight of a time traveling protagonist is hamstrung from the very start. Past, present, and future all exist in nebulous parallel, time loops *must* come full circle, and who says the past can't reshape the future even as the future alters the past? I cannot say enough positive things about how this fic handles a trope that I'm usually very wary of, and that's not even getting into how well done the characters and their interactions are. I love Edelgard here so much, I love her relationships with the Blue Lions, and the bonding and angst that arise from it are both equally delightful.
Also, Ingrid. I love her. She's my girl, and it's a crime that she doesn't have supports with Edelgard in game because they could have such a wonderful friendship/relationship, and this fic fully realizes it. It does so much justice to my girl.

I just really love this fic. It does such an excellent job converting Touhou's whimsical setting and cast into urban paranormality, and it gives up very little of what makes Touhou so special in the process. Everyone's a little different, but all still very much themselves, and while the incidents, as they were, are definitely reduced in scale and scope, they make up for their lack of over the top danmaku battles with a layer of investigation and intrigue that translates far better to a literary format. This is just such a well-done adaptation, and it's so different from all the other Touhou fics out there.
Also, the authour uploaded the whole Luna Nights soundtrack to their youtube channel, which was really very nice and helpful of them.
