:') I'm a huge fan of "[character] gets a GUN" for the sheer comedic effect. This may be the first instance I've seen where the effect was heartwarming.

    Summary

It should’ve been him, he thought again, incapable of anything more for the time being. It should’ve been him between the red dragon’s teeth. Those sharp points, meant to rend his armor, had torn through Falin’s robes instead, hardly a barrier at all between its teeth and her soft, fragile skin.

It should’ve been him, if only because he was the one with his sword pointed toward the dragon. He was a fighter, she was a healer, so it should have been him.

And more than that, he knew although he couldn’t say it aloud, that he wished it had been him.

    Summary

Obrin was well aware that their positions had been dramatically, and perhaps permanently, reversed. He had been warned, in letters, that Mithrun’s ordeal had left him as little more than a shell of himself. “Very changed,” the healer had called him, tactfully. Still, no correspondence with the medical team could have prepared him for the reality that now lay, propped up with pillows, in the bed before him.
