Sometimes, he dreams of small hands clasped together, or a smile meant just for him.
Most days now, Steve's dreams are cold. But maybe there's a summer sky still waiting for him, right around the corner.

Summary
Steve Harrington was not stupid.
The people who heard that coming from Nancy Wheeler probably thought that was her just being nice when they asked her why she had dated the meathead jock with great hair.
And they would have been right, at first.
But the thing is, that Nancy was also far from stupid, so it didn't take long for her to catch up.

"I wasn't expecting to have an execution so soon in the morning," Carol whispered to Tommy with cheer.
"Those never get old. I almost feel bad for the poor guy."
"I don't, you would think they would learn at this point." Carol took a sip of her diet soda. "He is not the first and certainly not the last."
Or, Steve Harrington is a reformed, but not tamed, queen bee.

"It was Harringron; sitting on a little stool, in the dark, wearing Eddie's vest, and holding his hands out like he wanted to calm down a rabid animal.
This. Is odd.
"So, guess I'm not dead" Eddie said, still catching his breath. Hands to his chest, he flopped onto his back. At least he can still do that, although he doubts he'll be able to get back on his side.
"No you're in my kitchen"
This revelation did little to explain anything. And in fact, confused Eddie even more."

Summary
Distantly, he hears the Wolf snarling and grappling with the demogorgan.
And then his blurry eyes pick up a third figure joining the fray.
A familiar figure, armed with a crude spear, jabbing furiously at the demogorgan’s head.
Steve’s head swims and he loses sight of anything after that, the sound of his rapidly-slowing heartbeat thudding in his ears.
“Steve, you with me, big boy?”

In the aftermath of Eddie’s death, of the gates opening, Steve is struggling. His bat bites refuse to heal, he can’t let go of Eddie’s bloodied vest, and his dreams are plagued by visions of Eddie, by the Upside Down, by a creature that stalks him through the night.
Until one night, at the end of his tether, Steve returns to the Upside Down to search for the man he’d left behind.
