As he turned to face the other, he did the one thing that he could to salvage this. The one thing he could always turn to. The only thing that always worked. He lied. “Nope Kacchan. I’m all good.” He delivered this, paired with a brilliant smile, so easily that it seemed genuine.
But he knew it wouldn’t be enough to fool him. Not Katsuki. Not his boyfriend who was first his closest friend and then his rival. Not the boy who knew him like the back of his hand. Not the boy who had died for his sake in the war. Not the boy who had proudly claimed his name was Kacchan Bakugou. He looked up at the face hovering over his own and met a pair of concerned, confused blood red eyes.
So he continued to lie. It was all he knew. The lies were all that he had.

Izuku is insecure and also happens to be a compulsive and habitual liar. He gets away with it - until he doesn't. Katsuki's never been more thankful for a villain's freaky quirk.

Kacchan pulls the bathroom door shut behind him roughly. When he doesn’t come back in after a few seconds Izuku's eyes dart between the closed door and his bleeding hand a few times.
So... does Izuku just...take it out?
"Do NOT," he hears as soon as he starts reaching for the knife, "touch! The fucking knife!"
Izuku does not touch the fucking knife.

5 times Izuku tries to brush aside or take care of an injury on his own and Kacchan helps him, +1 time where Izuku leans on Kacchan's shoulder before he can get hurt.
(Or five times Katuski almost has an Deku-induced aneurysm and one time they're both okay thank fucking god)

Keeping their relationship a secret was a mutual decision. There seemed no benefit in announcing it, not with Kacchan’s independent debut so close and the inherent danger of being recognizable current (or former) heroes. Everyone who needed to know already knew, and in some cases, seemed to know much before they did.
Izuku regarded the declaration warily. He didn’t want a freak villain attack to upend their entire lives.

“Watch your mouth, Kacchan,” Izuku murmured weakly, forcing a small grin despite his pain.
“Never mind my mouth!” Katsuki shot back, giving Shoto a look that clearly said, I’ll be right back. Then he bolted toward the woman, Emi cradled securely in his arms.
Reckless as ever, Izuku ends up with a fresh injury—one that will likely leave a nasty scar. And, of course, Bakugo is the one tending to his wounds.

Izuku let out a long-suffering exhale. “I beg your pardon?”
“You forgot Hero Dynamight over your girlfriend,” Kota continued. “That means that he’s… he’s the love of your life.”
Kota’s cheeks reddened like he was embarrassed about what he had just said. Izuku stared at him. He didn’t know a Hero Dynamight. But there were a lot of heroes he didn’t know. The world was a big place, after all.
“You grew up together,” Kota barrelled on. “You tell us all the time how the two of you are friends. He guest lectures here sometimes. You… you don’t know who I’m talking about?”
Izuku swallowed hard as he looked at Kota’s face. If this were any other student, he wouldn’t believe it. But Kota wasn’t the type to joke or kid around, especially not with something of this magnitude.
Izuku accidentally gets hit with one of his students' quirks and temporarily forgets the love of his life - who is not, as it turns out, his current girlfriend.
