"My father thinks I should be more like you," Julien says, the venom in his voice somewhat weakened by the self-directed bitterness also present. Azune coughs, uncomfortable.
"Oh?"
Julien sneers; wrong answer. It's unlikely there was a right one.
"He thinks you're so serious and straight-laced and perfect."
"Oh." Julien doesn't keep going, so Azune clears his throat again. "I don't think I am."
(In a reality where Azune has been asked to infiltrate the Golden Orchard instead of the Revolutionary Guard, Julien doesn't cope well with the newcomer.)

"Do you want some company?" Bolaire asks, stopping a few steps away.
Azune stares at him, then blinks sluggishly, shrugs.
"If you wish."
Bolaire does not move.
"This isn't what I asked. Do you want me to stay?"
Azune tenses up, and there's a spark of annoyance in his eyes now, though it is quickly smothered by the usual cool professionalism. They stare at each other, blue pinprick to dusky hues; Azune blinks first. He looks away, hugging his knees against his chest.
"I don't mind if you do."
That's as good as he's going to get. Bolaire closes the distance and sits next to Azune, leaving some space between them. Silence stretches, the strain bleeding into disinterest — then, eventually, into a tenuous sort of camaraderie.

Summary
The kid looks like he's stopped breathing. He's standing very stiffly, eyes fixed on the wall left of Julien's head.
"I don't need you to kill anyone," he repeats. "I need you to find out why I've been killed."
A silence falls as Julien tries to make sense of the sounds he's just heard. He glances at the empty tumbler in his hand; surely the sip that was left wasn't enough to get him from painfully sober to inebriated enough to hallucinate voices.
He very carefully, very intentionally sets the glass back on the desk, and looks intently at the man in front of him as he says:
"I am sorry, I think I've misheard. Could you say that again?"

The Falconer's Rebellion begins, as most rebellions do, with a singular mission and a man far too dedicated to fulfilling it. There's nothing unusual about that. We've seen it before.
This time, though, things turn out a little bit differently.

None of that was real. We all need to talk. Do you understand, none of it was-
I believe you, Azune responds, as gentle as he can manage. I hear you. We cannot lose him in an alley before he gets to his door, Murray. Do I go?
A pause. Then, reluctant:
Hurry back.

Teor stared at her, opened mouthed for longer than he’d like to admit. “I…”
“Because— Hypothetically, this is all hypothetical of course, he could have told me he finds you, like, amazingly sexy.”
Teor felt himself getting hot despite the car’s AC on his face. “Uh.”
“And in this completely imagined and theoretical scenario I would be very down with being involved in that.” She stared at him, horizontal pupils blown. “Hypothetically.”
“Hypothetically,” Teor repeated numbly.
