Wumuti assumed it was a person. It had four limbs, one head and one torso much like her, yet its little face held an uncanny resemblance to the fox statue outside. It sat curled up at the bottom of the jar, wearing a ragged dress that seemed to have been hastily ripped off a cheap manufactured doll. A broken plastic tiara was tangled in its messy copper hair. When Wumuti bent to peer closer, it curled even further into itself, its big, round eyes following her unblinking.
"Hello," Wumuti murmured. "What's your name, little one?"
Though Haru may be small, Wumuti's love is vast.

Haru definitivamente não estava na melhor fase da vida.
Sabia disso desde os doze anos, quando percebeu que nunca conseguiu se enxergar da forma que o mundo esperava. Não odiava coisas "de menina", tinha amigas e gostava da companhia delas, mas havia um desconforto constante em ser visto como uma delas.
A vida adulta apenas piorou tudo.
O emprego na cafeteria mal pagava as contas, mas era o suficiente até o dono chamá-lo depois de descobrir, de alguma forma, que era uma pessoa trans e dizer: "talvez não seja bom termos nossa imagem ligada a... esse tipo de coisa, sabe?".
Um mês depois, desempregado e sem conseguir pagar o aluguel, Haru foi despejado. O inverno chegou junto da fome, do frio e das noites dormindo na calçada, até que sua dignidade passou a ter um preço chulo.
Então, numa noite particularmente cruel, uma garota cruelmente bonita parou diante dele com uma proposta inesperada.
