Summary
“Did you hear that?” Booker’s words break Elizabeth from her reprieve. She draws back from the crate she had been picking through to peer at Booker. His tone was odd, so she wanted to see his expression to gauge on just how worried she should be. She balances herself on her palms against the edge of the crate before fully pushing herself fully back onto her feet properly.
Booker had taken a few steps away from her, his attention focused elsewhere. His gun is lowered, but he looked tense.
Elizabeth can’t read his expression, but the tension in his body makes her hands curl into fists at her side. A wave of worry rolls over her as her mind jolts back to the muggers from earlier. “You don’t think they followed us, do you-?”
Booker shakes his head, turning his attention back to her. “No, no, it isn’t that.” His lips pull into a tight frown, “It’s a baby. I can hear a baby crying.”
Elizabeth pauses for a moment, a little thrown off. “A baby?”
---
Elizabeth is more than a little surprised to see Booker Dewitt of all people be so gentle with a baby, yet, here they are.
