Summary
There's an insistent tapping on Buck's face, and Buck's eyes drift open back up towards-
"Eddie," he says, maybe slurring through his name. It doesn't feel right, as if the words are buffering somewhere between his brain and mouth.
"Eyes on me," Eddie says, except it splits somewhere down the middle.
He has a determined look on his face, the one he wears when he's trying to make sense of a bad call, mouth set and ticked down at the corner. Buck knows that look as surely as he knows how to breathe, the same way his heart knows how to beat. Eddie is gravity, the pull at the center of Buck's world, and even now, when Buck can't find his footing, he can't help but be drawn toward him.
Behind Eddie's eyes, Buck sees fear.
-
On the way to a routine call, the 118 engine is involved in a major lateral impact collision. It's confronting for Buck and Eddie, in more ways than one.

Summary
Buck swipes his tongue over his blood-splattered lips, the metallic taste lingering on his tongue. Something sharp pinches the back of his hand, and he waits for the familiar, almost comforting sensation of pain medication to begin to flood through his veins.
The pain begins to recede to a more welcoming ache, though it continues to ripple across his pelvis in small waves. Buck’s body slumps against the rubble as the last of the adrenaline begins to leave his body. His vision swims in and out of focus, but one constant thought manages to break through the fog.
Eddie.
He needs them to know.

Summary
Evan Buckley was out, and proud. He has his first boyfriend, Tommy Kinard. He couldn’t have been more happy. Or at least, that should’ve been the case.
Eddie Diaz has always been able to read his best friend like an open book. Not that Buck made it obvious; Eddie just knew him on a level no one else understood. So when Buck starts changing after getting together with Tommy, Eddie is immediately suspicious. But no one else seems to notice; so what if he’s just making it all up? Maybe he was. or maybe, he just wanted Buck for himself.
But Eddie swears that there is definitely something wrong there.
And he is determined to find out what it is.

Summary
After the fight in the grocery store, Buck feels like he's causing too much damage so he drops the lawsuit and leaves LA, joining a hotshot wildland firefighter crew out of Montana. He's gone for six months until he gets a call from Chris that something is wrong with Eddie, causing him to race back home only to find a very confused Eddie instead of a hurt or depressed Eddie. Eddie talks him into coming inside for a beer and after that Buck can't bring himself to leave the Diaz boys behind again. But that doesn't mean he's ready to talk to anyone else yet. So they just don't tell anyone else Buck is back. For over two years. Even when they start dating.
Three years after he left LA and the 118, there's a pileup on the 210 in La Tuna Canyon Park and a wildfire racing towards all the crews scrambling desperately to get everyone out in time, including the 118. Buck's crew is in the right place at the right time, and they don't hesitate to come help.

Summary
“Buck…” His voice is hoarse, barely audible, and he’s not even sure if Buck can hear him. His fingers find the seat belt release, moving almost mechanically, though his hand shakes with the effort. Focus. Just focus. His vision blurs again, but he blinks furiously, refusing to let it cloud over completely. He has to see Buck—he has to.
“Buck!” he chokes out, louder this time, his hand pressing shakily against Buck’s shoulder. The touch feels strangely distant, like he’s moving through water, but he keeps going, clinging to the warmth beneath his hand, to the faint movement of Buck’s breathing.
There’s a flicker, a faint groan as Buck’s eyes flutter open, his gaze glassy and unfocused. For a moment, Buck just stares, blinking sluggishly, as if trying to make sense of Eddie’s face hovering above him. Eddie’s mind races, fear coiling in his stomach—a sluggish response could be a sign of a concussion, or worse, a brain bleed.Eddie is a damn good medic. He knows that. He copes best under pressure. He can think outside the box. He has to. It’s his job. But this… this is Buck.
Or
The one where Buck’s jeep gets hit by a drunk driver, and all Eddie has is a poxy first aid kit.

Summary
"You look exactly the same," Eddie says with tears in his eyes. "How is that even possible?"
"I don't know," Buck says, his thumb swiping across Eddie's knuckles. "I don't understand it."
He may be the same, but looking at Eddie, Buck can see the years on him. His hair is a bit different, the creases by the corners of his eyes just a bit deeper. There's a new scar on his right hand that Buck hasn't seen before. He'd know these hands blind, but it takes him a moment to notice it still. His fingers brush over it once, and then again before he actually looks down and sees the thin golden band wrapped around Eddie's ring finger. Then he just—stares at it, stupidly, for a second. Before Eddie pulls his hands back, and leaves Buck's hanging empty in the space between them.
"You're married," he says.

Summary
Running to the frontlines from a childhood he never had. Taking a bat to the wall with his son in the next room. Having an affair with the spitting image of his dead wife.
Eddie knows he’s never been good at grieving, knows he’s never been good at losing what little he allows for himself in the first place. This is why he also knows his coping mechanisms can’t possibly get any worse.
Buck, as he so often does, makes him reevaluate his assumptions.

“No pulse, charge to two-hundred joules.” The paramedic said to her partner, while Eddie was forced back, away from Buck’s hands which now fell limply to his sides instead of clasped inside of Eddie’s.
“Clear!”
“Buck, come on!” Eddie sobbed once the paddles shocked Buck’s sides. “Come on, please, come on, Buck...”
“No pulse, charge to two-hundred again.”
I had all and then most of you,
Some and now none of you,
Take me back to the night we met...“Clear!”
“Please, Buck, please. Please, baby, come on. Not like this!”
I don't know what I'm supposed to do,
Haunted by the ghost of you,
Oh, take me back to the night we met... -

Summary
Eddie licked his dry lips as he reached for his radio, trying to keep his movements slow and delicate to prevent any more damage to himself or Buck. “Diaz to Captain Nash.”
“Go for Nash,” came Bobby’s quick reply. “You two okay? Where are you?”
“We’re in a bit of a sticky situation here…”
“We’re a shish kabob, Cap!” Buck chimed in.
Eddie rolled his eyes.

Summary
It was a simple scene – just your ordinary, average, run of the mill multi-vehicular accident. It should have been nothing. It was nothing. Until a runaway drunk driver on a bridge changed everything.
And Eddie, working at dispatch, could only listen as the man he loves is washed away by the element that seems determined to take him to a watery grave, one way or another.

Buck chokes out a shaky whimper and opens his mouth to say something but all he can manage is a quiet cry and his eyes clench shut again, his face twisting in pain and his body trembling with agony. The weight on his abdomen feels heavier and it hurts, it hurts so bad and he knows he's bleeding, but he can't do anything to stop it because he can't move, he's stuck.
He barely brings his hand to his radio to call for his team, but someone else acts faster and speaks those words that pull Buck out of his haziness and hit him like a freight train, his eyes starting to burn with tears of fear.
