Summary
A plan formed in the back of Xie Lian’s mind, driven by hormones and the madness of grief. Wu Ming was an omega going into his heat. Xie Lian was an alpha. He could mark Wu Ming, mate him. Bonded omegas rarely left their alphas. It would tie him to Xie Lian irrevocably.
It was a terrible, ruinous plan. Evil at its core, for someone like Xie Lian to steal away such a beautiful, devoted omega from his chosen beloved.
Xie Lian was going to do it anyway.

Summary
“Where is your mate?” Xie Lian’s voice is harsh and just the sound of it in his current condition sends a thrill across the ghost’s skin.
“I don’t… have a mate.” Wuming’s voice comes out between harsh breaths. His body shaking slightly with Xie Lian’s nearness, then he feels slim fingers close around his jaw and it’s all he can do to bite back a moan. The fingers tighten roughly against his skin, forcing his head to turn until he’s looking directly up into his god’s masked face.
“What about your beloved?”

As he rounds the corner to the front of Puji Shrine, he's taken aback to see Nan Feng standing outside the shrine's open door with his sword drawn. "Nan Feng?" he calls, and Nan Feng jumps.
"Oh!" he says, recognizing Xie Lian. "There you are! Your highness, you shouldn't enter — there's a demon inside!"
Xie Lian frowns at him. "I'm aware," he says. "He stayed the night."
