When his father sells his childhood home, his stepmother throws one last party, and Tony’s left off the guest list. That’s fine, too. It’s not like he wanted to go anyway. At least, not until he remembers that he left something important hidden in the house’s walls. He’ll just have to break into Stark Manor to find it while everyone else is busy celebrating.
Except there’s just one tiny, little problem. Steve, the man that broke his heart then walked away like it was nothing, was invited to the party. But it’s fine. He’ll just ignore the man that first stole and then shattered his heart.
As the night wears on, Tony realizes he has to reconcile some difficult truths from his past, find a way to reconnect with Nat, and battle his lingering feelings for his ex. He also needs to ignore the longing looks Steve keeps casting his way. And the feeling that Howard knows something about his breakup that he doesn’t.

Natasha wasn't supposed to be home that night. She was supposed to be on a mission halfway across the world. If Steve had known her plans had changed, he never would have brought Bucky into their apartment, dripping blood across the hardwood floors. If Steve had known, he would have taken him the extra few miles back to the bank instead of letting Nat stitch him up.
If he had taken Bucky across the city, then things might have turned out differently for them.
For the two years after the Battle of New York, Natasha and Steve shared a home, missions, and life plans together. Natasha made breakfast on Sunday mornings when they were both home. Steve bought her flowers before the last bouquet could wither on the kitchen counter. She thought she knew the man she shared a bed with, shared her secrets with, only to realize he may have never existed in the first place.
