“You want to tell me what that was all about?” Jack asked, his tone harsh.
“I don’t think I know. I don’t…” Ianto hesitated, as though about to admit a deep, dark secret, even if only to himself. “I’m broken, and I just have to deal with it.”
“Ianto, we’re all broken,” Jack practically sneered. He was angry, and he couldn’t find any compassion for the younger man’s admission. “Every single person on the planet is broken. We’re all just dealing with it.”
And doing a damn sight better job of it than you, remained unspoken but perfectly understood.
And just like that, Ianto’s suffering meant nothing. Less than nothing. Because his suffering would never be as important as… Well, anyone else’s.

Summary
Ianto has just spent a grueling forty-plus hours on cleanup in the aftermath of his and Jack's mission at Serenity Plaza. He can be forgiven for misinterpreting Jack's words as the older man dropped him off - alone - at his flat with the admonishment to 'get his head right' before returning to work.
