Zuko returns to the Fire Nation victorious, having captured the Avatar who managed to escape from the Pohuai Stronghold. He knows everything will return to normal now that he is the Crown Prince once again. But there are words. Words from the mouths of servants and maids, about the Avatar being tortured and his own uncle committing treason by attempting to break him out. Zuko doesn’t believe it but he has to check, because his uncle has gone missing for a while. And in the dungeons starts a conversation, one that changes Zuko’s path forever.

Summary
After the infamous Agni Kai, Zuko is never sent on a fool's errand to capture the Avatar. Instead, Fire Lord Ozai believes his son to have succumbed to infection from the burn. Little does he know that Iroh smuggled the former prince out on a ship. Unfortunately, that ship is captured by pirates and everyone on it enslaved.
Years later, King Bumi finds a young firebender on General Fong's military base. The boy is injured, malnourished, and obviously mistreated, forced to fight earthbenders as part of Fong's secret training regimen. Bumi takes issue with this.

The hall to the throne featured only the absolute best, and she had decided it was time to feature a new collection. A complete set of portraits in the likeness of her Fatui Harbingers. That was the task put upon the newest in line of the crown’s artists.
Meeting her majesty’s standards was easy enough, at least when compared to wrangling the leaders of The Fatui into sitting down to paint. Especially when some are far less cooperative than others.
