Summary
While it was true that Desmond Miles had a terrible childhood, Desmond was pretty sure that between him and his three ancestors, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad would be crowned as the king in the most screwed-up childhood category.
And, instead of dying after using the device back in the Grand Temple, Desmond now had first-row seat in the tragic play that was Altaïr’s life in the Levantine Brotherhood.
Oh. And he gets to play the part of the doomed younger brother of Malik Al-Sayf, Kadar Al-Sayf.
You know what? Screw that. Desmond isn’t going to just let himself get killed because of Altaïr’s dumb arrogant ass. He’ll survive that day in Jerusalem even if it means becoming Altaïr’s own (dubious) moral compass.

Summary
He was three years old and the date was March 13, 1987 when he started to remember his past life as Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.
He was four years old when a man by the name of William Miles took him from the orphanage by the orders of his supposed grandfather and William Miles’ ‘teacher’.
He was four years old when he first met Desmond Miles.
(a long Altaïr-centric oneshot of Altaïr being reborn in the modern time and becoming Desmond’s childhood friend and accidentally changing the flow of the war between the Assassins and the Templars)

Summary
He is not a good man.
Never claimed to be.
Maybe that's why he can tell with such perfect clarity that Cole is a prick: takes one to know one.
Maybe it’s why things happen the way they do (somewhere between lucky and fucked): Ghost deserves it for being a fucking prick, too.

Or:
An old friend of Soap’s causes new problems for Ghost (if covertly watching one’s flirty subordinate get plowed—poorly—over a bathroom sink can be said to be a problem). They work it out in the end.

Summary
So, Soap’s a big guy. Obviously.
He’s not overly tall, but he’s wide in the shoulders and thick in the thighs. He’s the kind of big that’s naturally built all over: training muscles on top of mission muscles on top of an innate bulk.
He’s the kind of big that makes him immovable to most guys.
The kind of big that’s always been -ger than most everyone else—if not by height, than at least by heft.
So when they’re on mission and Ghost spots a grenade before Soap does, and, with no time to warn him, grabs him by the waist and flings him back behind cover, gear and all, Soap’s really not expecting to think much about it, aside from maybe, ‘Oh, shit.’
What he thinks instead is: ‘Oh-hmm.’
And then, in rapid succession: ‘Big.’
------ ------ ------ ------ ------ ------
Or, Soap realizes that Ghost is bigger than him. His dick realizes that’s hot.
