Minutes later, Max had found Charles in their private bathroom – knees clutched to his chest, eyes red-rimmed, shaking like an autumn leaf ready to depart from the branch.
Max had immediately sunk down in front of him, hands on Charles’s knees, eyes searching for answers while Charles composed himself enough to speak.
“I- I am… I might be,” Charles started, but choked on his own voice, tears cascading down his cheeks. In the end, Charles just ended up pointing to the counter where a pregnancy test lay.
Max said nothing at the time. Max just slid down the same wall that Charles was using for support. Max held Charles closely. In the minutes that went by, Max reassured Charles that no matter what the results, they would get through this together.
A timer on Charles’s phone had rung, a positive pregnancy test awaited.
