Summary
It’s not like the bed is comfortable, or anything. Her dorm bed sucks; the frame is creaky, the mattress hard, the blanket scratchy, the sheets always weird-smelling no matter how many times she washes them. Annabeth regards this bed as one of her most uncomfortable sleeping arrangements to date, which says a lot, considering the amount of trucks and forests and cave walls she’s spent some of her nights in.
And still, the itchy blanket feels like some sort of safe haven for her, at the moment. Not that anything feels safe, particularly, but you know. If she’s curled up in a blanket and tricks herself into being asleep, maybe she can hide from the stupid pit that’d settled in her stomach about last month.
Or maybe it was before that, she’s not sure. She thinks it was last month because last month was when it happened; last month Annabeth’s dad decided he didn’t want her. Again.
In which Annabeth can't leave her bed, Percy climbs a window, and a blanket smiles back.

Summary
Percy had known, going into the labyrinth, that it might as well have been a suicide mission. That for a demigod weaker than him and Annabeth, a demigod walking around alone, it could cause insanity. Incurable insanity, a fate worse than death. But he’d truly thought they could best that maze; him and Annabeth and Grover and Tyson, especially when they had Rachel Elizabeth Dare for guidance. Still, when Percy had seen the way Annabeth had looked at Luke, the way she’d still tried to reason with him when he made demigods and monsters fight to their death, he’d doubted her strength.
Okay, not her strength, exactly; Annabeth Chase was the strongest person he knew. But her ability to stay rational, stable, healthy, when it came to Luke.
Or: Percy and Annabeth never talked about Luke in the fourth book, and that never sat right with me because Annabeth's trauma is grossly overlooked. So I fixed it. You're welcome.

Veronica didn’t know how she could still be so in love with him, with the boy she hadn’t spoken to since last year, but she was. She was pathetically, terribly in love with him; a kind of love she didn’t think existed outside of books or love songs. The kind where she felt like he was a part of her, and when they weren’t speaking, she felt the lack of his presence physically in her body. Like her heart was made of wax and it was slowly melting in the sun, disintegrating into mush, every day she didn’t talk to JD. To her other half since she’d been nine years old. Veronica was an overthinker, always had been, but even she’d never been able to imagine a scenario in which she had to live without JD. It was unfathomable, to her.
Used to be, anyway.
Inspired by Stupid Song by Olivia Rodrigo. Also, this fic is a part of my Before They Convinced You life is War universe and I reference it here a lot, so you should probably read that before you read this. Or don't. Do whatever you want.
