Looking back on it, there wasn’t supposed to be anything special about April 12th. The weather reports were average, no storms or burning sunshine, no indicator of what was to come. People went to work, bought overpriced coffee and lived their lives. No one had any idea of the change one day would make. The power hanging in the air that would infuse peoples skin and bones, the massacres ahead and the joy and fear of a worldwide phenomenon no-one would understand until the Green Paper was published. April 12th was one of the most important days in modern history; but no one knows they’re a part of history until it's already happening

He remembered staring up at the weird blue clouds, rain dripping past the visor of his helmet and an apartment fire roaring in the background. He remembered watching the microsecond it took for lightning to arch towards him and then he remembers nothing.
Nothing, Nada, Nil. There was the briefest minute of pain, so fast that he could barely even register it and the sensation of being yanked by his harness but then it had all gone white.
None of that explained why he was looking at the stained popcorn ceiling of the room he had had when he was sharing a house with four other dudes. He recognized the stain in the corner of the room, there used to be a leak there that he’d had to seal when he had taken the room.-
One second he was climbing a ladder to put out an apartment fire and the next he was waking up to a ceiling he hadn’t seen in years.
Somewhere out there, God is laughing at him, but he’s going to make the best of this unwanted second chance.

The voice over the line was inhuman. Mechanic. Altered. Stripped bare of any of its humanity and left with nothing but a voice module that crawled out through the receiver and rubbed at Bobby’s skin like ice.
“We have something that belongs to you, Captain Nash.”
Bobby’s heart thumped against his chest when he held his breath too long.
“Who is this?”
“We’ll be in touch soon. Keep your phone on you. The next time we call, you will answer or your kid will pay the price.”
Bad guys target Buck after mistaking him to be Bobby’s son.

Summary
Chimney presses his lips together in a thin line, eyeing the beer in Buck’s hand before he steps back and motions for Buck to come in. He barely closes the door before he turns, hands on his hips and says, “Okay, on the count of three we both spill whatever it is we need to say.”
Buck nods his head in agreement. He just prays he doesn’t vomit all over Chimney’s floor when he speaks.
“One.”
“Two.”
“Three.”
And, two things happen at once:
Buck manages a I slept with Eddie last night while Chimney blurts out Maddie and I slept together.
Followed by;
Buck, spluttering Aren’t you and Maddie not together?? and Chim practically howling YOU SLEPT WITH EDDIE?

Summary
It happens too fast.
Bobby and Chimney barely get the warning out before a large pile of debris rushing down the river crashes into the tree. In the midst of the panic, Buck somehow instinctively unclips himself from the line as they tumble into the water, knowing they would most certainly drown if he didn’t. He holds onto Hannah, nearly crushing her against his chest as they plunge beneath the ice cold surface. Eddie’s terrified Buck! is the last thing he hears before he’s pulled downstream by the dangerous current.
