Kalim felt a tickle in the back of his throat. He tried to ignore the growing discomfort in his chest and shortness of breath, but he couldn’t stop the violent cough that overtook his body. He hacked into hands, feeling something rise up his throat. He spat it out, and a wet lump landed in his hands. Though they were limp from the saliva coating them, Kalim could clearly make out vibrant, ruby petals.
