    Summary

Henry returns to Rattay after many months away, and Heinrich sees the side of his father that loves.

    “Henry!”

Three heads rise to the balcony, where Heinrich’s father is leaning over the balusters looking down. The chill wind pulls at the loose ends of his hair and the gaping collar of his tunic, though he shows no reaction to the cold. He’s almost never up this early — grousing if he’s woken before noon — but his eyes are wide awake now, fixed on Henry alone.

Heinrich senses himself shrinking back into the shape of a child, small and wet and instantly forgotten. He bristles with disappointment. Henry is beyond him now. And the courtyard, the village, the knights, the rain, his mother. All are secondary to Lord Hans Capon, who only has to call his name.

    Summary

"If you could, would you ever go back to a certain moment in the past?"
Henry had asked Father Godwin this question more than once.
A drunk Godwin would tell him, "Tempus fugit, et non revertitur." (Time flies and never returns.)
A sober Godwin, on the other hand, would say that he wouldn't mind squeezing the bathhouse mistress’s tits in Uzhitz one more time.
And yet, for some reason, out of all the moments in his life, Henry kept returning to one endless sunset in Nebakov—Hans Capon, twenty years old, leaning against the railing on the second floor of the fortress, golden hair gleaming in the setting sun. From that moment on, every angel Henry ever imagined bore his likeness.

    Summary

“The universe is constantly expanding outwards at a rate faster than we can comprehend. And one day, it’ll collapse in on itself, and take us all with it.

We got our one-way ticket. This train doesn’t make any stops.”

Colonel Kepler tells a riddle and considers the concept of time. Plus, electric chairs, alien life, turtles, and a terribly hidden Richard Siken quote.
