When Garth asked Jason what phrases he wanted translated, the mer hunched down in the water and blew furious bubbles before huffing, “No.”
Garth frowned. You already know how to say that. What other things do you need to be able to say to Bruce and Alfred?
Of the speech, Bruce recognized his name and maybe Alfred’s. It made it feel like something was clawing inside his chest, knowing that he couldn’t communicate properly with this child living in his pool.
Jason curled his lip back. I know human words.
You really don’t.

Summary
He’d spent last night sleeping behind a dumpster—which didn’t exactly feel Superman-y, but, well, he was Superman. So anything he did was Superman-y. Right?
Right.
Just because he couldn’t imagine any of the other Supermen—no, not other. Fake. They were fake Supermen. So nothing they did was Superman-y.
...Right.
Or: Superman’s death left a gap that everyone with a superpower or good heart was eager to fill. But only one of them was actually Superman. Or, as close as you were going to get. Closer than anyone else, at least. Also, only one of them was a teenager. But no one seemed to care about that as much.

Summary
Jason is just trying to survive on the streets of Gotham--made slightly more difficult by the fact that some gang has apparently decided to make him their most wanted person. Until he befriends a kid-who-definitely-isn't-Robin, who promises to help him reunite with his dad. And, well, Jason's not in the habit of accepting favors. But maybe it would be worth it, just this once.
Featuring ghosts or zombies or hallucinations, misunderstandings (both unintentional and entirely intentional), lots of identity shenanigans, and some discussion of dads.

Summary
Jason has figured out that there are two groups of people: the "Heys" who keep him in a bathtub with too little water and subject him to unimaginable pain every time they pry scales from his body and the "Assholes" who buy the scales.
So when he's taken from the Heys by some Asshole, he's not stupid enough to assume his situation will actually improve at all. All humans, after all, are terrible--especially Assholes who wear demon skin and don't quite grasp how lost Jason really is.
(In which Jason misunderstands pretty much everything about humans and Bruce is an asshole...in the nicest way possible.)

Summary
Jason used his big smart brain and calculated how much he could get from those wheels.
It was a very, very nice number.
Jason had only successfully removed the front left tire before someone behind him cleared their throat. Loudly.
Jason froze.
He’s been around enough people (people who were sick with a cold and people who worked within Gotham's underbelly) to identify the connotation of a throat being cleared. Someone with a bad case of post nasal drip didn’t announce to the world that they had mucus in the back of their throat. Someone who just caught their tires being stolen off of a very nice, clean car would want their presence known.
Jason was thankful for this method of being caught red handed as opposed to being beaten and left for dead.
However, his heart began to race as Jason turned around in what felt like slow motion.
His eyes widened almost comically.
Bruce Wayne was staring directly at him.

The recording erupts with a loud, broken scream.
"Say it," grates a modulated voice. "Beg him to find you."
Eventually, Jason's young, hoarse voice sobs, "...Batman, please."

Summary
He spots the robin on a tree branch maybe thirty feet away, and Tim, grinning, goes to adjust the settings on the binoculars.
It's exactly then that he realizes what's behind the bird.
Because from here, on the third story and at just this angle, there's no treeline to block his view. Behind the little robin singing on its branch, he can see the Wayne family manor, clear as anything, close enough that it almost feels like he could reach out and touch it. One of the windows on the downstairs floor is open, and it's draped with light curtains that float softly in the breeze. A moment later, a different sort of Robin bounds into view, sans mask, grin wide and bright.
Tim flinches back as though burned.

Jason does not get his hands on the tires. Or, well, not fast enough.

Jason tries to steal the Batmobile tires, gets caughts, gets adopted. But Jason also can’t open his mouth wider than two fingers.
