Summary
A lab tech at an ARGUS black site grabs the wrong bottle off the wrong shelf to save Christopher Smith's life. The bottle contains the Blood of Hermes, which the Themyscirans handed over as a "goodwill gesture" five years ago and which has been sitting in a locker ever since. Diana asked her mother for it fifteen years ago. Hippolyta said no. Diana asked again at ten years. Hippolyta said no. Diana asked again at five years. Hippolyta, finally, said yes: one vial, and you must let the Americans choose.
What happens next is not a superhero origin. It is a man with a clean prefrontal cortex sitting across from the people who built the world he lives in (Waller, Clark, Bruce, Holt, Diana, his therapist, his bird) and slowly figuring out what he is now. Twelve scenes. Mostly people talking in rooms. He earns a new name.

Or: In which Sabine probably could have stood to know less about her Jedi Master's love life. She's also increasingly certain she must have missed some kind of orientation meeting on all of the ominous backstory references flying over her head. Or maybe she's just being hazed.

They are very, very strange.
A character study spanning fifteen years, from an Orion teenager reading Navigating Multispecies Social Norms with increasing bewilderment, to a Starfleet officer on the USS Cerritos who has spent a decade learning to live in a one-tenth-bandwidth world — and who is beginning to understand, finally, why the bandwidth was ever restricted in the first place.
Tendi can smell everything. This is not a superpower. It is not a disability. It is the condition of being Orion in a room full of people who can't, and who mostly don't know she can, and who built their entire social architecture to compensate for a sense they don't consciously possess.
She loves them anyway. Possibly because of it.

Sometimes, all it takes for the world to change...is a little timing. Suppose GUN found out that Gerald was jerking them around a little earlier, when Shadow wasn't as grown/developed? Suppose his escape pod was just damaged enough that GUN never found him, in all those years? What might he become, without Gerald's manipulations? What might he feel, younger and still bereaved? And what might he decide, in a little house by Never Lake, with the person who found him instead?
A look into how things might have gone for Shadow, if the worst day of his life hadn't been followed by GUN and Gerald each trying to outdo it. Rated T due to Maria's final moments, realistically described, and for references to emotional/psych abuse by Gerald to keep his medical experiment compliant.

Having found himself in the sparkling distant future year of Shortly Before Sonic Frontiers Is Set, a half-eldritch hedgehog finds that no matter how reserved he might be, this new generation will insist on sneaking peeks past his mask. (Or, How I Spent Christmas Nosediving Into Shadamy Fandom And Emerged With Opinions About Why Shadow's Such A Stereotypical Edgehog.)
My second ever fic, and my first time writing for this fandom, which is frankly ridiculous of me given I've been a fan since 1992. Slow burn of personal walls coming down. References to in-universe mythology that I'm kinda headcanoning as I go, and not beta'd, so this may diverge from deep-lore details in places. Rated for references to Maria's fate, for the possible political implications, and for a few bad things (and one or two truly horrific things, see tags) in the pasts of others too.

Rouge shifted her weight again, trying to catch his eye. “Shadow?”
Sonic had once joked to her that Shadow had a face like a blank sheet of paper—totally emotionless, boring. The jab was funny and juvenile. Typical Sonic. It was also dead wrong.
You just had to learn to see what was really on the page.
Rouge noticed Shadow’s entire body tensing up. Usually this happened before Chaos Control, or when he spotted an enemy. But there was nothing threatening about a door, or a sticker. His fingers curled into fists, and he stood unblinking, eyes trained on the little blue star. Rouge thought he might never move from that spot. There was a way he was standing that made her think he was seconds away from lunging through the door, maybe even breaking it down—or lunging away from it, kicking up his stupid techno-sneakers and zipping off down the hall, leaving her in the dust.
