Summary
My name is Patroclus Menoitiades. Although, whether you consider my blood or my heart, I carry two names: Menoitiades and Pelides alike. I am the son of two fathers. Both were kings and sons of kings. The first was given to me. The second I found. During this life, and in place of what I was given at birth, I found myself a family.
In the beginning, there was Automedon and Briseis. The first was born on Skyros, son of a man who ruled the isle. The second was born in Troy, and was ruled by all. Then came Paris and Helen, both home wherever the other was.
But first, before all of them… There was my therapon. I never found the words to describe what he meant to me in common terms. My love, my brother, my friend? I don't think I ever will. He was half of my soul, as the poets say.
My name is Patroclus Menoitiades. I have more fathers than most and missed a mother every day of my life. I was born in Opus in 1984... I shall probably not die there.
