Jellal almost falls—almost: he holds onto his desk at the last minute. His ragged breathing fills the tense silence. Summary
Meredy cries, “You don’t care—you don’t care about me! Your guilt is more important than I’ll ever be! You’d rather burden me with a guy I couldn’t care less about than let him die! You’d rather leave me alone than add another failure to your life!” and Ultear knows she's right.
or: Tenrou disappeared a year ago, and Jellal is out of prison. Alas, there’s so much to expect in life, and saving a martyr is not a sufficient penance when you carry as many sins as Ultear does. Meredy believes in her mother; she holds on to the hope that there's a plan, that there's a purpose to their journey... and when she realizes there isn't, she understands she'll have to make things work. -

Summary
It is a month after his tenth birthday that his mother got ordered to stop working by their doctor. Jellal now had to take care of her and thus start working; leaving behind school and his childhood innocence. Honestly, he believed the adult world to be easier - he was wrong and realised it too late. Maybe becoming one of the Belserion's domestics was in the end worse than begging to be employed in the nearest factory.
But at least, he met Her in this mansion. Perhaps it was enough to overcome the rest.
(It was not.)
