Ilya made him anxious, in a good way, he thought? Or excited. Or nervous. Probably all three. He’d always had trouble differentiating those feelings. They all kinda overlapped and gave him the same swirly feeling in the pit of his stomach. But this time it felt good? It didn’t feel dangerous to him like all the other times. He liked the kind of anxiety Ilya gave him.
Ilya didn’t have anxiety. He was the least anxious person Shane knew. If he ever felt nervous about anything, he never outwardly showed it. He never had to talk himself out of a panic attack. He just always was so calm. Cool. Level headed. Always had a solution for everything. It was exactly the kind of presence Shane needed in his life. Which is exactly how he created his new coping mechanism.
In his head, he called it What Would Ilya Do? Everytime he was faced with a situation he wasn’t sure how he was going to manage, he’d ask himself, WWID? And usually, the answer was either so ridiculous or so cut and dry, he’d figure it out before it was a big issue.

The room comes to a stop, the buzzing energy of a win quieting, but Ilya barely hears him, still too caught up on Shane messaging him through Instagram. They have barely talked since their fight. What could he have to say on Instagram of all places?

A plane went down. The Metros plane?
That cannot be true. Ilya must have heard wrong.
_____Instead of Ilya’s plane going down after their Boxing Day fight, it’s Shane’s. Ilya breaks down in the locker room, assuming the worst. When he finds out Shane is alive, his next assumption is that Shane will be mad at him for outing their relationship to the Centaurs. The team helps him get to Shane though, and all of his fears are put to rest.
