Summary
When Steve first came to him with the plans for returning to the Avengers, Bucky had refused on account of Tony Stark wanting him dead. Bucky had lost that argument, but he was glad for it now. Stark and Bucky's banter during his BARF sessions was a lifeboat on some of his bad days.
Stark is both Bucky's saving grace and a complete nightmare when the latest BARF session brings up some of Bucky's old memories from before the war. These memories reveal a tightly kept secret about how Bucky made ends meet during the great depression. This revelation shifts the tone of Bucky and Stark's back-and-forth teasing towards something akin to flirting, in their unique and inappropriate way.

I didnt expect to love this since character is a prostitute in fics isnt usually handled well. But author really did their fucking research on that shit in the 40s and made it so believable an authentic.
And the relationship with Tony was messy in the best way and very realistic. -

Prompt: On one of incorrect quotes blog I found this dialogue: Bucky: In 20 years, I guarantee you, I will be Tony's second husband. Tony: What happened to my first husband? Bucky: Nothing you can prove. Could you write a story with this dialogue?
“I'm serious, Stevie.”“I know you are,” Steve said, but he had that stupid little grin that meant he absolutely did not know how serious Bucky was. “I'm sure you'll be very good for each other.”
Bucky scoffed. “No shit. I'm not marrying him on a whim."
“You're not even dating him yet,” Steve pointed out oh-so-helpfully.

He does so only because his situation provides an invaluable opportunity to infiltrate the most impenetrable army in the galaxy — his own discomfort is a small price to pay for the lives he might save in the future.
Three months is all he can take before he decides to throw his cover and find his way back to Steve, HYDRA hot on his heels. With him, Bucky has a memory drive of stolen information and a second personality sharing his body, courtesy of HYDRA’s brainwashing.
All Bucky wants is to deliver the information to Steve and the Alliance and finally return home, but when his ship is damaged he has no choice but to stop for emergency repairs. He's directed to 'The Mechanic,' who can supposedly help, but Bucky isn't exactly comforted when he meets the man in question.
But with HYDRA breathing down his neck Bucky doesn't have a choice — he's going to have to trust this Tony, whether he likes it or not.

Summary
When Bucky starts acting strange — well, stranger than usual — Tony notices right away. Their friendship might still be new, but he likes to think that he's gotten to know Bucky pretty well by then. The problem is that Bucky doesn't want to tell Tony what's wrong, even when he asks. He dodges Tony's questions, saying everything is fine.
But the way Bucky keeps looking at Tony — as if he expects him to disappear the moment he turns his back — says otherwise.
And Tony is determined to get to the bottom of what's really going on.
