Victor turned back to him, supernova smile in place once more. “I really, really like you. Promise you’ll still dance with me at the banquet if you take gold this time around.”
Yuuri stared at the man. He looked at their entwined hands—he hadn’t wanted to pull away—and their thighs, pressed together despite there being plenty of room in the backseat of the cab. That scent of Victor’s cologne—just a dab, lightly applied somewhere on his neck—swirled around him. This was too real to be a dream, too physical for him to have imagined it.
“I’m sorry,” Yuuri said slowly. “But…have we talked before?”

“Yuuri,” Mari said in a rush, and she sounded so frazzled, in a way Yuuri wasn’t sure he had ever heard before. “I’m so sorry but… We- we lost Vicchan. We can’t find him anywhere and I-”
“What do you mean-” Yuuri started and then let out a sharp gasp, blinking fastly as he tried to make sense of what he was seeing. Seemingly to appear out of thin air, a large brown standard poodle jumped onto the ice.
The dog barked, and Victor turned towards it, eyes going wide as Vicchan took a few quick steps towards him, jumping up to place his large paws on Victor’s chest. The skater slipped backwards and landed on his butt.
“It seems a large dog has made its way into the arena and is sitting on Viktor Nikiforov?” Yuuri heard one of the announcers say in the speakers, and his heart pounded so hard against his ribs. It wasn’t just him seeing this then. “He seems quite happy about it to be honest.”- Language:

Yuuri knew this was coming, he’s braced for it. The offer is much more than he deserves, and he should be grateful, he should be honored. Instead the pity nearly chokes him, curling up over his heart, smothering and heavy.
My family needs help at the onsen. The lie sits on his tongue, unable to escape.
“I’ve thought about it,” Yuuri says. Out of frame, he’s gripping the fat brace over his injured knee.
“It would mean the world to me, if you came.” Phichit’s serious, and he looks tired.

An injury at the GPF ends Yuuri’s career and prevents the banquet from happening.
