Summary
She’s been calling him Lestat now, instead of ‘papa’ or ‘pops’ or the more severe ‘father’ she used to break out when she was being dramatic. Like she can distance herself from him, like she didn’t use to follow Lestat around like a shadow, imitating his every move while Lestat pretended not to notice, making increasingly dramatic gestures until Claudia was spinning around, laughing so hard she was doubled over. That feels like forever ago now, an entire decade between that family and this one.

Quiet mornings at the cottage had always been Shane’s favorite.
With Ilya there, things have only gotten better. Warm, sun-drenched mornings stretch into slow afternoons. They float between the bedroom to the deck and out swimming in the lake, hockey long forgotten about and their phones abandoned on the table.
They spend their evenings curled up on the sofa under blankets, their feet touching without having to say a word. They have dinner with Shane’s parents and listen to the loons by the bonfire, quiet conversations feeling less vulnerable.
So when they wake up one morning to eight missed calls from Rose and a flurry of text messages waiting in his inbox, he wishes he never looked.
Call me back when you see these messages.
I’m really, really sorry, Shane. This isn’t how any of this should have happened.

Summary
Some nights, when he finds the good vodka in Boston and lets himself have a few more drinks than he should have, Ilya lets himself believe that there’s a life out there for him where Shane Hollander can be more than just his hookup.
Sitting in his Vegas hotel room, a glass of decent vodka from the hotel minibar in his hand, is one of those times he lets himself wonder.
Shane’s side of the bed, where he’d just spent the last few hours with Ilya, as if they had all the time in the world, was still warm. Ilya can still feel where Shane’s lips roamed along his body. Can still picture the way they seemed to melt together as if they were always meant to be.
Like it was inevitable that they would end up in this situation.
Which is why he needs to end things.
If he lets this continue, he will fall for the boring Canadian with freckles and the social awkwardness that Ilya finds endearing.
He doesn’t trust himself to keep this casual.
