Apparently, someone does care if he lives or dies. Amanda begins to warm up to him too, Lawrence explaining how guilty she felt about Adam’s test in particular. There’s something deeper there as well that he can’t place, but she’s tight-lipped about it. She goes out for a smoke with him sometimes, stands with him in silence, shows off her scars, and that’s enough.
Mark Hoffman, though. He’s still a problem.

Slade is pleased to have Terra as an apprentice, as he believes she is full of potential for extreme violence. He's also pleased for another, less appropriate reason, because he also believes she is full of potential for something else. This boils over when he sees her getting too close to Beast Boy.

Summary
Terra is still holding the flower when he walks up to her. She looks up at him as he brushes a lock of hair away from her face. His gaze lingers over the hair he just pushed aside, then over to the flower, and finally up to meet Terra’s gaze. She realizes in that moment that she's been staring, that her breathing is quick and shallow, and she swallows hard before she whispers, “I don’t want to be your ward.”
This seems to catch Slade off guard, because he blinks at her before chuckling.
“Is that what you were pouting about by the car?” When she nods, he leans in closer, asking in a hushed voice, “What would you like to be?”Slade brings Terra to the H.I.V.E. Academy so that he can reconnect with a business partner, of sorts. Terra gets hung up on word choices, flower names, and a whole lot more...
